Stamped Concrete

Do you want to add a little flair to your new patio, make your walkway POP or personalize your common area? Then let’s talk about stamped concrete. This option allows your outdoor space to stand out compared to the standard dull finish that traditional concrete provides. You have the freedom to create a custom look and feel allowing for increased strength and durability over time. The stamping process uses rubber stamps or textured mats to create patterns of brick, tile, wood, and flagstone in a variety of color combinations.
We’ve broken down our process to give you a step-by-step overview of what to expect.
First, we size up the requested space needing coverage and install wood forms around the outside perimeter to frame and hold the poured concrete in place. We next install ⅜” rebar inside the wood framed area to allow for structural reinforcement throughout the concrete area. A slight slope of approximately ⅛” for every foot is accounted for and essential for establishing proper drainage and water run off across the slab space.
Next, a mixture of crushed rock and granite known as flex base is then applied inside the bottom of the framed area adding support to the newly poured concrete.
Now, it’s time to add the concrete coloring agents after pouring the concrete slab in place. A base color is hand sprinkled onto all surrounding concrete surfaces followed by a release color which gives an accent and illusion of depth throughout the concrete area. Time is of the essence once the concrete is poured in place and ready for stamps and coloring. It’s very important all colors and stamps are applied while the concrete is still wet. The coloring agents need ample time to correctly react and the stamped patterns to perfectly align making noticeable impressions. The stamping and coloring process can be drastically affected if slowly applied leading to uneven color and stamp distribution. Once complete, we return within 48 hours to acid wash and clean up any remaining residue off the concrete surface.
Finally, we recommend applying an oil based concrete sealer to lock in the color and protect the concrete from the outside elements. We offer both a gloss or natural finish on any sealing application.
